19-year-old dies days after suffering severe injuries in Madera County crash

MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Valley family is mourning the loss of 19-year-old Bobby Criado, who died Saturday afternoon after suffering severe injuries in a crash on Tuesday in Madera County.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday at Avenue 17 and Road 28 1/2, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers said an 18-year-old driving a Chevy Malibu ran a stop sign and collided with a Jeep. The 18-year-old driver died at the scene.

Criado, a passenger in the Chevy, was airlifted to a hospital with major injuries, including brain trauma. His medical team later told his family that his injuries were not likely to be survivable.

Criado's older brother, Raymond Criado Jr., said the family has been overwhelmed by the community's support.

"It was not surprising to see how many people showed up for him ... he's a hero," Raymond Criado Jr. said.

Family members said Bobby Criado had designated himself as an organ donor, calling the decision a final testament to his character and willingness to help others in need.

His family has set up a GoFundMe to help alleviate emotional and financial stress.
